About Dr. Antwan C. Brown

A Washington, D.C. native who later graduated from Forestville High School in Prince George’s County, Dr. Brown understands firsthand the challenges many families face. Raised in a single-parent household and becoming a young father while still in school, he experienced the realities of balancing responsibility, opportunity, and perseverance. Those early experiences shaped his lifelong commitment to helping others navigate difficult moments and build stronger futures.
Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Livingstone College, where he balanced academics, leadership roles, and raising his young son. He later earned a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership from Webster University and went on to complete his Doctorate of Social Work from the University of Southern California.
Military Service, Community Leadership & Public Service
After college, Dr. Brown proudly served in the United States Army, where he developed a strong commitment to leadership and mentorship. While in the military, he created a mentoring program to help younger soldiers adjust to military life and culture. He was honorably discharged in 2005 and remains committed to supporting veterans and young leaders.
Throughout his career, Dr. Brown has combined leadership with service to others. He has served as a youth mentor, athletic coach, college advisor, community organizer, and education advocate. His dedication to community leadership led him to serve as President of the Birchwood Clearview Community Association, Treasurer of the Oxon Hill Civic Association, and Chair of the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee.
Dr. Brown helped lead the regional coordinated campaign that contributed to the election of Maryland’s first Black governor. He was later appointed to the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives, where he currently serves as the Administrative Director for the African Affairs and Middle Eastern American Affairs Commissions.
Why He’s Running
Dr. Brown and his wife are proud residents of Prince George’s County, where they are raising their family and remain deeply connected to their community. They are also caregivers for his mother. Navigating various agencies on her behalf has deepened his understanding of how important it is for families to have clear guidance and compassionate support when navigating difficult life transitions and government systems.
